Moisture meters are commonly used to detect the build-up of water between materials, while sounding hammers are frequently applied in determining various levels of durability. When it comes to lamps, infrared LED lights can be deployed to locate damage during boat inspections.
Thermal Imaging and Boat Inspections
Most LED infrared boat lights used for inspections are built directly into the camera. However, it is also possible to use a standalone LED infrared spotlight to illuminate targets on and around the vessel. The beams are non-visible without a camera and only appear in the captured image or viewing panel.
Thermal imaging using infrared lights offer real-time feedback of temperatures. Inspectors may opt to use a thermal imaging device with other types of tools to improve accuracy.
For instance, pockets of moisture typically appear hotter, compared to dry locations. This can be picked up by the cameras and infrared LED boat spotlights. In hulls, the build-up of moisture tends to appear between wood, steel, aluminum or fiberglass. On commercial sailboats, pockets of water are common around encased (glass-in) chain plates.
Infrared LED Boat Light Applications
Boat inspections using thermal imaging and infrared devices have numerous on-site applications. In addition to detecting trapped moisture, the equipment can also be used to locate previous repairs and uncover worn out components.
During operation, an infrared LED light (with a thermal camera) may be applied to monitor engines. Such units detect abnormal operating temperatures, which is beneficial in preventing failure from overheating. Infrared LED lights can take on explosion proof construction, for use in flammable work sites, including industrial shipyards and other marine locations.
